Product Redesign

Motorcycle communication systems often prioritized technical functionality over intuitive usability, creating challenges for riders navigating devices while wearing thick gloves and managing distractions on the road. The redesign of the Sena 30K focused on improving both the physical interface and companion app experience, creating a more accessible and affordance-driven interaction system that streamlined communication, settings management, and group connectivity for riders.

Challenge

Motorcycle communication systems often suffer from unintuitive controls and complex navigation, creating safety and usability issues for riders who need to operate devices while wearing gloves and keeping their attention on the road. Existing interfaces frequently overloaded users with overlapping functions and interactions that were difficult to perform without visual confirmation.

Objective

The goal was to redesign both the physical interface and digital companion app of the Sena30K communication system to create a safer and more intuitive riding experience. Through user research, testing, and interaction analysis, the project focused on simplifying core functions, improving tactile usability, and optimizing interactions for blind operation during rides.

Results

The redesigned Sena30K concept introduced a more accessible and affordance-driven communication experience tailored specifically to the needs of motorcyclists. By streamlining interactions and relocating advanced settings into the companion app, the project improved usability, reduced cognitive load, and demonstrated how user-centered design can enhance both safety and communication on the road.
